Opening Sequences

What are Opening Sequences in the filming industry.

The Opening Credits are the people shown at the very beginning of the movie, that lists the main Actors (Stars) and the producers and directors that helped put the movie together.

The Title Sequence helps to establish the setting, Genre and characters to the audience. This can all be done with action, animation, music, still images, and graphics. The Title Sequence can normally last from 2–5 minutes long.

The Purpose of the Opening Sequence is to help the audience of the movie to identify the aim objective. The Title sequence and the Opening credits all have a role to play together and show everyone watching that the movie is called this... and the most important people in the movie like the actors or who created the move like the producers and director.

One Example of a movie that has got Opening Sequences of a thriller is the Steven Spielberg FILM of catch me if you can.

Another Example of a movie that has got Opening Sequences of a Hitchcock is the Film Vertigo.

The difference between Catch me if you can and Vertigo is that Catch me if you can has animations in the opening sequences and Vertigo has got an actual women and her features in the opening sequence. In catch me if you can it has got a mysterious style to it, which keeps the audience interested before it even starts, its also tells the viewers some insight to the plot and what has to come for the film ahead.

However, the opening sequence of Vertigo breaks down from distinctly different sections one is a mixture of live actions and graphics which was created by Saul Bass and the next section is just made up of live actions which was created by Alfred Hitchcock, the first part of the opening sequence introduces the character of Madeleine, and the second part of the opening sequences introduces John Scottie Ferguson.

    1. Hi Kevin

      Overall Score: 5/10

You started doing this correctly but the level of detail is not here yet, to be able to give you higher grading than this.
You were needing to go through the opening sequences and analyse them, contrasting techniques, in the 4 key technical elements. You scratched the surface with doing this but it needs more depth of analysis to get any higher marks.
