Active in sales and marketing of New Zealand film it also organises the participation of major international film festivals and markets.

The Ministry manages the New Zealands Film Commission's(NZFC)relationship with the crown and administers government funding.

The New Zealand Film Commission Board(NZFC Board)will consist of not less than six and no more than nine persons.

Points about NZ's film industry and where it's come from:

NZFC stansd for New Zealand Fim Commission... it is also known by New Zealand cinema which can refer to films being made or have been maed by New Zealand-based production companies. It can also refer to films that have been made about New Zealand by filmmakers from other countires.

Beacuse of New Zealand having a small sized film industry, New Zealand produces many films that have been co-financed by overseas companies.

The first ever screening of a motion picture in New Zealand took place in 1896. A doctumentary that was made in the in 1900 is the oldest surving New Zealand film. whilst the first film made in Aotearoa premiered in 1914.

Small-scale industries developed films in the 1920's - 60's, but it wasnt till the 1970's that films were begining to attract significant audiences.

points about the way they distribute films:

New Zealand films tend to find a local audience through either a targeted release or a widespread campaign or even crowd funding, they use one of these methods of distribution that is most appropriate for the individual film.

New Zealand Film Commission are responsive to changes to film distribution and understand that traditional distribution models may not be the best path for some films, and that self-distribution is challenging.

The film commission of New Zealand are happy to see distribution targeted at the right audiences and the right-sized audience and offer a range of distribution grants to support films in finding and reaching their audience.

TASK B: Ownership Essay:

"Discuss the impact of funding on media products"

In the film industry there are five major film studio's who are the most popularized studio's in the world where everyone knows about them, they are also commenly known as conglomerates, these five studio's are called "Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, Universal Pictures"...

Disney has got to be one of this biggest conglomerate out of the Big 5 as they own already 8 subsidiaries in their company. They have bought the subsidiaries from 1993 till 2019.
Disney is so big that they own 80-85% of the box office revenue.

  • Disneys Market Share in North America is about 33.1% in 2019.
  • Paramount Pictures Market Share is about 8.5% in 2020.
  • Universal Pictures Market Share has got about 19.66% in 2020 with 233,592,789 tickets sold.
  • Warner Bros.  Market share has got 21.9% in 2019.
  • Columbia Pictures Market Share is about 22.2% in 2020.

Conglomerates these days arent worried about how the anything else but money and they are concerned to get their movies into foreign markets like china because china has all the money.. the conglomerates make their movies have a foreign hero so those countrys can bring their movies into the country and make money from them.

The difference between Hollywood and the NZFC is that the NZFC has the intention of tourists coming into the country to see the famous land marks that are included into their movies. For Example (The Hobbit). But Hollywood have the intention of money, "who will get the most money from their movies". And who will rank the highest in the North America Box Office.

Cross Media Convergence is when film industries kind of advertise themselves through social media or other media platforms by posting something about their movie or part of it to get people wanting to know more about the movie. For Example (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, ETC.) They also advertise their movie through other movies they own/have made, this gets people engaged and wanting to watch them, which is a good thing for the film industry. Disney uses Cross Media Convergence to advertise movies like the lion king by using a soundtrack they put in the movie that comes from a famous singer or artist, ETC.

Synergy is when the film industries advertise their movie through assets that fans can buy. For Example (Pillow cases, pencil cases, posters, and bed sheets, ETC.) This engags with the fans because is allows them to have a piece of the movie and it helps the film industries to get money to pay for more movies. It is like a cycle that spins around and around. Disney uses Synergy to advertise movies like Toy story by selling Toy story bed sheets, ETC.
